DIY Mayhem

Posted on

Hey all,
For those of you that have been following my blog, you know that I have been planning my wedding.  What most of you dont know is that I have been planning most of it myself. Being a bride on a budget I decided to save a little money by doing the invitations myself. I must say that DIY sounds alot easier than it actually is and I now see why invitations cost what they do. Heres a little break down of how our wedding invitations went.

Invitation Man Hours:
12-15hrs Graphic Searches & Photoshopping
8hrs of packaging & ribbon wrapping
6hrs of hand written envelopes
6hrs of wax sealing
Total cost for printing, envelopes, ribbons & wax seals = $170  (Was quoted $500-$1500)

I must say that they turned out beautifully.  (I may be bias though 😉 )

My wax sealing process was half done and surrounded by red envelopes.

Casual Friday

Posted on

So yesterday it was cold, rainy and cold. I decided I wanted to dress a little more casual as I was not in the mood for being cold. I decided to wear my vintage varsity jacket, Nudie High Kai jeans, Alexander McQueen scarf, Chuck Taylor Converse shoes, and a white v-neck top. Let me say that I was nice and comfy for beer Friday :D.

Yay for beer Fridays 😀

Tribal Rhythm

Posted on

So yesterday I was wandering across Queen Street with a friend and decided to stop into a local vintage shop called Tribal Rhythm.  This was my first time visiting the shop, even though I have been meaning to stop in many times. I must say that I will definitely be returning.  The store was great and the prices were even greater! The store has a great mix of vintage clothing, a great assortment of sections, and a mix of new age accessories.  As you walk through the store they have dresses by eras, that include 1950,1960,1970 and of course the 1980s. One thing that makes this store different is that it is not overstocked. You dont have to rummage through a tight rack to find one great item. Everyting is neatly hung and spaced, and the clothing is good quality. I spent over an hour chatting with their lovely employees and being mesmerized by their assortment of 1950s gowns. I must say it was a great overall experience. I definitely recommend it to vintage shoppers.

Hair day

Posted on

So last week I got a call from my sister saying she didnt really like the hairstyle I picked for her to wear in my wedding.  (Yes I picked my bridesmaids hairstyles) I was obviously slightly insulted as I personally loved the hairstyle, so today I decided to try it out to prove a point that I think its nice.
I must say I had a hard time doing it as I am currently growing out my bangs, and also I only had a limited time to style it as I had to be at work.

The inspiration.

So I think it turned out ok. Im sure it could have been perfected with more time. But hopefully she will change her feeling towards the hair.

Moth Balls Goodbye

Posted on

So Ive been meaning to write about this for awhile but today really reminded me about this little blurb. Ok so today I was riding the streetcar home and noticed a nice looking young man. As it turns out the man decided to sit beside me. In most cases if I was single I would strike up a conversation but today there were no words. The main reason is that he smelled like he had been sleeping in a box of moth balls for the last 10 years. My first thought is “jesus get me out of here” my second thought was ” I cant beleive those things are still around” and my third thought was “moth balls dont only repell moths the repel friends “. So moving on from my thoughts I felt compelled to share my story along with a little advice.
If you have a moth problem there are wonderful little things called Cedar Balls. They are lovely.

Not only do thet give off a nice fresh scent of cedar, they also come in different shapes and sizes. Little balls that can go in your drawer, hangers to hang in your closet, rings to fit on top of your hangers.  They are fantastic! For those people that dont like the smell of cedar this company also makes lavender bags and such which also serve the same purpose.
If you live in Toronto I found these at a great store called BINZ in the beaches.
And for those of you that dont, they can be found online.
So moral of the story is there are way better ways to keep the moths away, and way better scents.

Have a lovely day!

St Patty’s

Posted on

Sorry its a little late but I wanted do a little post about my St Patty’s day festivities. On St Pattys day we decided to have a ladies night for our friends birthday. We dressed up in our lovely green get-ups and our signature green drink, and green food. Its was a great evening.  For the event I wore a 1950s green playsuit, my peacock T.U.K shoes, and a vintage cardigan.

Victory!

Posted on

So Ive been growing my hair out for over a year now and boy has it been frustrating.  For awhile now I have been trying to do victory rolls in my hair. They have been driving me crazy.  Not only do my arms get tired, they also never seem to work. My hair is quite fine so it takes alot of product. But today I finally had victory! I conquered the victory roll!!! Whoop whoop. After an hour of working on them I finally got them to work.
