Guts & Guns

Hey all,
Over the last week Ive been starting to feel like I have cabin fever! Here in the city of Toronto if there is any shift in weather the city basically can’t function. So when it snowed a couple feet the other day the city seemed to go into hibernation mode. No one shoveled their walks, no one out out salt. The sidewalks were definitely not stroller friendly. I tried going walking with the baby carrier as well but the snow/slush/ice with an added 15lbs of weight as well as a batty bull terrier in tow was quite the trek. Don’t get me wrong I go outside but its definitely not what I am used to at all. So today I am hoping this cardio workout will help me burn off some steam and make me feel a little better. No to mention help burn off some of this baby belly.

Cardio cardio cardio

I did this twice. One before the guns workout and one after. I also added 1 min of jump rope at the end just to burn off the added steam. Also I am still doing the squat challenge so I also did the 70 squats.

Load your guns

I also decided to throw in a quick little arm and shoulder workout so I can tone up my sad looking arms. I did 3 sets of these.

Hopefully this will help my current winter blues.

Happy Friday!

Let’s Get Healthy

Hello friends and fellow moms,
As some of you may have read in my last post, I am currently starting to get back into the swing of things and trying to get back into shape post baby. As most mom’s probably know, it’s hard enough to leave the house with a baby let alone going to the gym. So I’m trying to do my fitness workouts from home with workouts I have found on Pinterest. So far the workouts are 30 mins or less.
I must say that yesterday I could barely walk or lift my arms so obviously the workouts are working 🙂

Workout Day#2

Workout day 2

This one was a killer! I also added the additional squats on for the squat challenge and 100 skipping rope jumps for a little cardio.

Easy Spaghetti Squash Pad Thai

This was an easy healthy dinner I made last night. Total cooking and prep time was 1hr. It was really delicious, healthy and super easy to make.

Ingredients:
1 lаrge spаghetti squаsh
1 cup bok choy (diced)
1 cup cаrrots (thinly sliced)
2 cooked chicken breаst, chopped (I used tofu)
1 clove gаrlic, minced
1/4 cup chicken broth
2 tbsp peаnut butter
1 tbsp rice wine vinegаr (I used regular wine vinegar)
1 1/2 tbsp soy sаuce
1 red chili pepper

Gаrnishes:
2 tbsp dry roаsted peаnuts, chopped
green onions (chopped)
cilаntro
lime wedges

Directions:
Cut spаghetti squаsh in hаlf lengthwise. If you аre hаving difficulty cutting it, try microwаving for а minute or two, whole. Scrаpe аwаy the seeds. Plаce on foil covered cookie sheet аnd seаson with sаlt аnd pepper.

Roаst on 350 degrees for 40-60 minutes. Remove, let sit 5 minutes аnd then “shred” the squаsh with а fork.

In а lаrge nonstick skillet coаted with cooking sprаy, sаuté gаrlic for 1 minute. аdd the bok choy аnd cаrrots аnd sаuté over medium-high heаt for 3 minutes. Remove to а plаte. аdd chicken broth, peаnut butter, soy sаuce, rice vinegаr аnd red chili pepper to skillet.

Heаt until smooth. Return veggies to the pаn, аs well аs the spаghetti squаsh. аdd in chicken, аnd heаt over medium heаt for 5 minutes or until sаuce hаs coаted аll.

Divide аmong 2 plаtes/bowls аnd top with peаnuts, cilаntro, green onion, аnd lime wedge.

Happy workouts from me and my 4 month cheerleader! 🙂

2014 Fresh New Start

Hi everyone,
So I have been MIA for quite some time now. I feel as though the last year has flown by. From pregnancy to baby it has all been a blur. So this year I am going to be changing up my blog a little bit. Its still going to have vintage fashion posts as well as fitness and of course baby stuff. There will definitely be more DIY stuff on here as now that I am at home I find myself being more crafty while the baby naps. I hope that my followers will continue to follow me and hopefully there will be more to come 🙂

So to start off the New Year (a little late I know) I am going to start off the year with fitness. I recently have had a baby and am now looking to get back into the swing of things. Since I currently have a new addiction to Pinterest I have decided to start a fitness challenge for myself. 5 days a week I am going to find a home friendly workout off of Pinterest. I will post my workouts on here so feel free to join in. I will be posting my progress as well.

Workout Day #1

Workout day 1

When I did these exercises I tried to only rest for 1 minute in between. It keeps your heart rate up.

Squat Challenge

I have also decided to work on my derriere so I also add the squats into the daily workouts.
My time today way 15 mins flat and I am officially hurting. Side note my 4 month old cheerleader thinks me doing mountain climbers are hilarious! I would love to hear your thoughts.

Happy workout everyone!

Dot Days!

Hey all,
I was recently going through my closet (again :S) and I came across one of my bright and colorful summer dresses! I love this dress. The cut is great and I also love the colors as well. Another good thing is that it has STRETCH!!! And I am currently living the life of all things stretchy 😉
I decided to squeeze myself into this dress while I still can and I felt great in it.

Another great thing about this dress is that you can dress it up or dress it down. Yay for versatile dresses!
Today I am wearing a Dollfactory by Damzels dress, vintage leather shoes and vintage denim Roebucks jacket.

Oh and I just had to show off my new ring I got as a gift from a friend! Toooo cute!

Have a great day!

Breaking The Rules!

Posted on

As some of you followers know I was told at work that I am no longer allowed to wear heels. I’m not sure how stern my warning was but I haven’t worn heels since. This is actually a problem for me as my heel collection well exceeds my flats collection. So on Friday I decided to test the waters a little and I wore a pair of vintage clogs…….clogs aren’t heels so I thought I would be safe, and no one said anything so I’m going to assume I’m in the clear for clogs 😉
I paired them with a cute little skull dress that my sister got me for my birthday (its from H&M) and I wore a pair of denim cutoffs that I turned into maternity shorts:). The reason I wear the shorts is because I personally find that H&M dresses are quite short and when you add a baby bump into the mix its even shorter. So to save people from seeing my rump all day I played it safe with shorts 🙂

I am wearing vintage clogs, vintage cardigan, H&M dress, Denimbird Jean cutoffs and Lida Baday patent belt.

Crochet cuteness!

I’ve recently been looking through my vintage stash in preparation for my up coming Pop Up Shop, and I have been having a slight problem. I seem to be finding a lot of things I want to keep for myself lol. So while I was searching through my goodies I found this great little crochet cardi. I love it! And I think at one point I actually had gotten it for myself and never worn it so it got transferred to my storage. Well now it has been reintroduced to the world and is ready for the summer heat 🙂 hopefully!

Wearing a vintage crochet cardigan, vintage tooled leather belt, vintage leather flats and a great maxi dress that I found at winners for $20. Unfortunately I don’t think its going to fit for very much longer 😦

DIY Maternity Jeans

Posted on

Hey All,

I am not a legging person! I have never been a legging person! And I probably never will be a legging person! No offense to the people that do like leggings but they are just not for me….So when I got pregnant I had a little problem. 1) I wanted to be comfortable but didn’t want to have to wear leggings or Lulu’s for my entire pregnancy and 2) I didn’t want the jeans I bought to look like maternity jeans. So one day my husband brought my home a lovely pair of Paige Maternity Jeans and they were faaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnntastic!! I love them! But again I cant wear just one pair of jeans for my entire pregnancy and I also don’t want to spend  $180 or more on jeans, so I inspected them and figured I would make some of my own.

Step #1

For this project you will need a pair of low rise jeans, stitch ripper, fabric scissors, matching thread, and either high stretch fabric or elastic (40mm or wider) and of course a sewing machine.

Step #1

STEP #2

When I am doing my jeans I usually take chalk and draw where I am going to cut. I cut from the top inside corner to the bottom outside corner.  When I cutting the waistband I come in a half an inch. The reason that I do this is so I can stitch rip open the seams on the waistband and fold in the waistband to create a cleaner look at the waist.

Step 2

STEP #3

Take your pocket cut out and place it on your elastic. (Note: I used 60mm Cansew elastic and I stitched 2 peices together to make it wider to fit in my pocket) Then cut around the pocket adding a half an inch on all sides (except along the top) to provide a little seam allowance.

Step 3

Step 3_2

STEP#4

Align the elastic with the top of your waistband (fold in the 1/2 fabric you left at the beginning to make a clean edge) Start sewing in your elastic. I always start from the outside and work my way in. (Start at the outside top corner, work my way down and then across to the inside). Fold your edges in to create a cleaner looking edge. (Note: I usually use a zigzag stitch on some of  my jeans that have a little more stretch in them as it provides a little more give with the elastic)

Step #4

And there you have it!!! Done! Put your jeans on and enjoy! 🙂

Step 5 Done! DONE!

Now you can enjoy your jeans a little more comfortably and they can expand along with your growing belly.

Here is my outfit today and I am wearing a pair of the maternity jeans…..Notice? You cant even tell 🙂 Today I am wearing Paige Maternity Jeans, Vans leopard print shoes, H&M cardigan, and a Rock Steady clothing shirt.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial today and please note you don’t have to be pregnant to try this 🙂 You may just have a pair of jeans that are a little too tight. This helps provide a little comfort.

Happy Sewing!

Its a “Lucy” Kind of Day!

Posted on

Hey all,
Today I woke up wanting to do something a little different with my hair. The idea quickly popped into my head that I would try the “I Love Lucy” hairstyle, as that is what most people call me at work 🙂

image

My first attempt for this hairstyle. It turned out quite nice. Funny thing is no one called me “Lucy” today.

image

Today I wore a vintage dress, vintage tooled leather belt, vintage cardigan, vintage necklace and coach shoes. I think dress really complimented the hairstyle 🙂

Here is a little tutorial for this hairstyle if anyone is interested in trying it.

Mary Had A Little Lamb!

Posted on

Recently Ive been on the search for non terrible, belly friendly dresses to wear for the summer. I can finally say I actually found one that I love! I found it at one of my favorite stores Dollfactory by Damzels. Granted im sure its not intended for maternity wear but I just couldn’t resist 🙂

image

image

image

This is an adorable dress by Iron Fist. This dress literally has all things great 😉 It has little adorable lambs (some may or may not be wearing bondage) flowers, zippers, belts and studs. I absolutely love it!!! And the bodice is short enough on me that I can fit my baby bump in too! YAY!

image

I decided to do my hair in a couple victory rolls facing different directions. I think it went well with the dress 🙂

And here it is!!! A close up of the adorably baaaaaaaad little lambs. By far my favorite dress so far!
